My girlfriends ex is making subtle threats against her. How can she protect herself?

What legal steps can she take to keep this guy away from her and her young children? He is violent and abusive. My girlfriends ex is making subtle threats against her. How can she protect herself?
What are you talking about ';how can she protect yourself?'; Are you serious? YOU protect her... she's YOUR girlfriend. Sorry, but u need to mann up, confront him yourself, and deal with the damn situation... That's a sad question. Sorry, but a guy who won't stand up for his gf jst pisses me off.My girlfriends ex is making subtle threats against her. How can she protect herself?
The best protection is to always be aware of who is around you and who is behind you when you drive. I went through the same thing... a piece of paper can be just that, a piece of paper. Your own eyes are your best defense.
Restraining order definitely.

If you get a chance to record any of the threats, you can take that to court and get him on something else.

Sorry you're she's dealing with this :/
You need to intervene.

And make it clear there will be consequences for his actions. keep it that vague, and he won't know what to expect from you!
She should document his threats through recording him and saving emails + texts. Then take them to the police to report him. The police will talk to him and maybe he'll stop. If not she might need a restraining order.
Pretty much she just needs to move and change all of her numbers so he can't find her. Getting a restraining order will only make him go even more crazy.
Restraining order and mace along with a taser for when you're not around.

Some people choose not to let a ';piece of paper'; stop them.
Get a restraining order put against his ***.
Get a restraining order.
